pretty much any card that has a port for an antenna can be used for a 'directional' antenna.

A good place to go and look at different cards and their abilities is:

A nice card is the Senao, you can read all about it here:
        www.seattlewireless.net/index....naoCard

Exactly which card you want though has a lot to do with what you want to do with it and how you want to do it. If you're using windows and you want to stumble you probably want an orinoco based card. If you want to crack wep, you'll need a prism based card. If you're using linux you probably also want to head towards prism. That said, browse the list and find one that meets your requirements, the cards with dual antenna ports are really nice.

Do you have an opinion on the SMC2532W-B...after reading the review and searching for info online, it seems to be a nice card. It runs on Prism and has both internal and ports for external antennas, not to mention a high output. Do you know anyone who is running one of these to stumble and crack WEP?
          Any info would be helpful...

I dont know of anybody using one. One thing I forgot to mention, netstumbler works best with orinoco based cards but will work with some prism cards in XP. You may want to hit netstumbler.com and look through the forums to see if anybody else is using that card.

All in all, I'd say as long as a card isn't 'strange,' that is, it doesn't have any special uses, it's not on sale for $9.99 or it doesn't come bundled with some other strange hardware it will probably not only work but will be pretty much the same as the card next to it on the shelf, esp after you add the antenna. BTW, in my opinion, a higher RX is more important than TX for wardriving/walking/flying/elevating/sailing/whatever..

Did you see the thing on warflying on slashdot? My friend did that :) I sorta rendered the maps...

correct, but proxim orinoco cards also use a different chip and are useless in netstumbler, linux, and *bsd

Evil M, which card from your experience has worked well in the *nix platform? I have linux on my dell inspiron laptop with inbuilt wireless but I had to use ndiswrapper since broadcom refused to make a native linux driver hence I cant use real monitoring mode for wardriving/walking.

I have read about a few cards but I wanted some experience input.

        Thanks.
